If you don’t mind (and maybe even prefer) some teaching in your editing, I’ll deliver. It’s thrilling to send writers off not only with much improved manuscripts but also with a command of important writing tools as they go forward into other writing projects. But if you prefer your editor “dive in and just do it,” that works too. I’ve done many projects as a book doctor, which involves heavy editing/rewriting.

I'm not a fan of cliché or trendy language. Expressions like "speak truth to power," "you need to own it," and "hold space for each other" give me a crease between the eyebrows (they’re also likely to date your writing). Also, the word amazing will be called out in all instances except when the writer is referring to a three-headed deer or colonizing Venus.
